Grilled Mustard BBQ Slaw

A BBQ take on a classic side. Grilled cabbage slaw with a sweet, creamy Carolina-style mustard BBQ sauce. From SouthernFATTY.com.

Ingredients
Cabbage Base
  • ½ green cabbage
  • ½ red cabbage
  • oil, salt and pepper, to grill cabbage
Sauce
  • ½ bottle Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet Golden Mustard Barbecue Sauce
  • ½ onion, diced (I prefer Vidalia)
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise (types labeled salad dressing work best for this)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon pepper, ground black
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1-2 large carrots, peeled and thinly sliced/shredded
Instructions
  1. Heat charcoal grill appropriately.
  2. Slice whole cabbage into 1-1½ inch large cuts. Set aside ½ of each, green and red cabbage.
  3. Lightly oil cabbage cuts. Salt and pepper generously.
  4. Grill on each side until thoroughly charred.
  5. Remove and cool completely.
  6. Once cooled, slice thinly and combine with shredded carrots.
  7. Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl or jar and mix completely.
  8. Mix sauce with cabbage mixture.
  9. Serve immediately or store in refrigerator until needed.
